El grado de invasión de Rumex acetosella L. (Polygonaceae) y su relación con los atributos de la vegetación de dos comunidades de pastizal en el NO de la Patagonia

Resumen

Rumex acetosella es una hierba exótica perenne que invade los claros (i.e., área entre los pastos perennes dominantes) de los pastizales del NO de la Patagonia. El objetivo de este trabajo fue estimar su grado de invasión y relacionar las variaciones de su cobertura con las características de la vegetación de los claros en comunidades dominadas por Pappostipa speciosa (ex Stipa speciosa) y en aquellas dominadas por Festuca pallescens. En cada comunidad, se seleccionaron diez claros al azar, en los cuales se estimó la producción de semillas de R. acetosella (2008, 2010 y 2011) y la cobertura de todas las especies (2008-2010). Se compararon tres estaciones con diferentes condiciones meteorológicas entre sí. Rumex acetosella estuvo presente en 98% de los claros y fue la especie dominante. A pesar de su abundante producción de semillas (2660-6900 semillas/m2), sólo se registró regeneración a partir de rebrote. Rumex acetosella presentó una mayor invasión en los claros de pastizales dominados por P. speciosa en comparación con aquellos de pastizales dominados por F. pallescens. La menor riqueza en los primeros podría limitar las interacciones inter-específi cas, lo que constituiría una ventaja para R. acetosella. Las hierbas anuales fueron particularmente afectadas por la sequía y por el incremento en la cobertura de R. acetosella. Los resultados obtenidos sugieren un alto éxito de colonización y expansión de R. acetosella en las comunidades estudiadas. Las variaciones marcadas en la cobertura de la especie exótica dominante y en las condiciones meteorológicas produjeron cambios notables sobre los atributos de la vegetación de los claros.
