Variabilidad de la forma corporal en poblaciones de Delphacodes kuscheli Fennah (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) a escala subregional

Resumen

Delphacodes kuscheli (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) es vector del agente etiológico del Mal de Río Cuarto (MRC) del Maíz. Esta enfermedad viral es la que más pérdidas ocasiona en el cultivo del maíz en Argentina. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue analizar las diferencias morfológicas entre poblaciones dispersivas de Delphacodes kuscheli capturadas en diferentes regiones geográficas. Los insectos fueron colectados a lo largo de una transecta de 500 km en la principal región maicera de la Argentina. El muestreo se realizó durante la primavera y el verano de 1999 y 2000 mediante trampas pegajosas. En cada sitio de muestreo se colocaron tres trampas a 6 metros de altura sobre el nivel del suelo, las que se reemplazaron cada 7 días. Los datos obtenidos se procesaron mediante Análisis de Componentes Principales y Análisis de Función Discriminante. No se encontraron diferencias en el tamaño corporal entre los insectos colectados en los distintos sitios. Considerando todos los sitios de muestreo, sólo fue posible reasignar el 50% de los individuos al sitio del que fueran colectados. Cuando se consideraron los tres sitios ubicados en cada uno de los extremos y al centro de la transecta, se pudo clasificar correctamente el 75.53 y el 82.05% de los individuos para cada año. Se detectó una muy elevada discriminación temporal cuando se analizaron años diferentes. Estos resultados sugieren una estructuración espacial y temporal de las poblaciones de Delphacodes kuscheli y una muy elevada flexibilidad fenotípica de la especie. Se discuten las implicancias ecológicas del hallazgo.
