Preferencias de observadores de aves por especies de la ecorregión pampeana

Resumen

1. La observación de aves es una actividad que permite diversificar la producción y fomentar la conservación de la biodiversidad en paisajes rurales. Los productores que deseen desarrollar propuestas de turismo rural basadas en esta actividad, deben conocer las especies que más buscan los observadores y los ambientes que favorecen su presencia.
2. Identificamos las especies de aves más valoradas por los observadores en la ecorregión pampeana (provincia de Buenos Aires), los criterios que fundamentan dichas preferencias y las características sociodemográficas de los participantes. Con una encuesta en línea, jerarquizamos 74 especies según su valor de observación y analizamos 6 criterios de valoración. Además, relevamos información sobre los destinos más visitados para la observación de aves.
3. Obtuvimos 226 respuestas. El churrinche (Pyrocephalus rubinus), el tachurí sietecolores (Tachuris rubrigastra) y el naranjero (Pipraeidea bonariensis) fueron las especies con mayor valor de observación. Entre los criterios analizados, comportamiento y plumaje resultaron los atributos más valorados. Además, identificamos 3 perfiles de observadores (principiantes, intermedios y avanzados) con diferentes preferencias por especies, criterios de valoración y ambientes. Pastizales y humedales fueron los ambientes más valorados, y los cultivos anuales, los menos. La mayoría de los destinos de observación se ubicó cerca del lugar de residencia de los participantes y fuera de las áreas importantes para la conservación de aves.
4. Implicancias. Nuestros resultados resaltan la importancia de promover paisajes multifuncionales que integren la producción agropecuaria con la conservación y el turismo de naturaleza. Los espacios no cultivados, lejos de ser improductivos, aportan valor al ofrecer oportunidades de recreación asociadas a la observación de aves. En consecuencia, estos ambientes pueden complementar otras estrategias de conservación (e.g., reservas naturales) al favorecer tanto la biodiversidad como el desarrollo de actividades turísticas sustentables.
