Stages in the editorial process
Once submitted to the journal, the manuscript goes through the following steps.
- Peer review. In the first place, the Editor-in-Chief conducts a review of the focus and relevance of each submission. Subsequently, the manuscripts are assigned to an Associate Editor and evaluated by at least two anonymous reviewers. At the end of this stage, the manuscript may be rejected or accepted (with or without modifications). If accepted, it moves on to proofreading and style editing.
- Correction and style editing. The Style Editor performs orthotypographic correction, formatting, and style adjustments (by submitting a manuscript to Ecología Austral, authors acknowledge that it will undergo this stage after acceptance for publication). Once edited, the document proceeds to galley proofing.
- Galley proofing. The Layout and Communication Editor generates the galley proof (PDF). This document is reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief, who approves its delivery to the responsible author for a final review on the PDF. The corrected PDF is returned to the Layout and Communication Editor within a maximum of 7 days to continue the editorial process toward publication.
