Abstract

Mean daily harvesting patterns of the leaf-cutting ant Acromyrmex lobicornis were analyzed at Lihué Calel National Park during five daysin April (autumm), July (winter), October(spring) and December (summer).Throughoutthe yearforaging activity ocurred between 11.7 °C and 22.6 °C.There was no activity in July. Harvesting patterns were similar among nests in April and October. Harvesting activity generally increasedwith airtemperature, exceptin octoberwhen harvesting decreased atthewarmest hours. In December activity was nocturnal and showed no synchronization among nests, suggesting thatthese harvesting patterns were influenced by food discoveries rather than by climatic variables.
