Composición y distribución del macrozoobentos de un sistema lotico andino-patagonico
Abstract
The macrozoobenthos of the Esquel stream, Futaleufli-Yelcho watershed (43o S, 73o W), was analized at 14 stations encompassing a range from 1350 to 350 m of altitude and including sewage discharge from the town of Esquel. Eighty-four benthic macroinvertebrados, most ofthem endemic, were recorded.The taxa more represented were Diptera,Trichoptera, Plecoptera, and Ephemeroptera. Species of Oligochaeta, Hirudinea, Mollusca and Platyhelminthes were scarce. Based on taxa composition we identified three groups of stations: one corresponded to high-altitude stations, another corresponded to sites influenced by sewage discharge or by fine sediments, whereas the third group consisted of sites located both upstream and faraway downstream from Esquel. Specific richness decreased at locations influenced by sewage, but its recovery downstream suggests that the pollution effect is rather local.
