Preferencias alimentarias de la cotorra Myiopsitta monachus (Aves: Psittacidae) en cautividad
Abstract
Food preferences in the Monk Parakeet Myiopsitta monachus (Aves: Psittacidae) in captivity. The Monk Parakeet is a psitacid considered an agricultural pest throughout its range. The aim of this work is to give information about daily food intake, gross energy intake, and preference between seeds by means of “cafetería” trials. A daily intake was 10.6 g (3.3 Kcal, g-1, or 34.9 Kcal.bird-1.d-1), and a partial preference was observed, with the ranking sunflower > maize > sorghum > wheat > oats.
